13:00 - 13:45
Following a short introduction to the symposium from Alain Mongeau (MUTEK) and Hugues Sweeney (National Filmboard of Canada), Susa Pop from Public Art Lab will present the Connecting Cities Network, created in 2012 with support of the Culture Programme of the European Union.
The Connecting Cities Network is a worldwide expanding initiative aiming to build up a connected infrastructure of media facades, urban screens and projection sites in order to circulate artistic and social content between cities. It works in opposition to the commercial use of large-format media in public space and sees these sites as new opportunities for communication as they engage citizens in artistic processes and enable them to shape their urban environments in a collaborative way.
The Connecting Cities Network was initiated by Public Art Lab Berlin in cooperation with Ars Electronica Futurelab Linz, BIS (Body Process Arts Association) Istanbul, FACT Liverpool, iMAL Brussels, m-cult Helsinki, Medialab-Prado Madrid, Media Architecture Institute Vienna, Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Riga 2014 and Videospread Marseille. Other partners include Aarhus University, Marseille-Provence 2013, MUTEK Montreal, Quartier des spectacles Montreal, Foundation Bauhaus Dessau, Verve Cultural Sao Paulo, Federation Square Melbourne, XM:LAB – Experimental Media Lab at University of Saarbrücken, Etopia Center for Art & Technology Zaragoza, Sapporo Media Arts Lab and The Concourse Sydney.
All symposium activities take place in English.
